Corporate VP Convicted of Embezzling $1.5-million

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A Newtown woman accused of embezzling more than $1.5 million from her employer has pleaded guilty to a wire fraud charge.

Federal prosecutors say Joanne Osmolik worked as a vice president for human resources at Latex International in Shelton where she and another manager allegedly used corporate credit cards for personal expenditures, then covered it up with fraudulent expense reports.

The 51-year-old Osmolik pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of wire fraud in U.S. District Court in Bridgeport.

As part of an agreement with prosecutors, Osmolik to forfeit her stake in three residential properties in Vermont, six motorcycles, four snowmobiles and jewelry.

She is to be sentenced on March 9.
