DANBURY, Conn. (AP) _ Authorities say a 19-year-old student at Western Connecticut State University has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near the Danbury campus.
Danbury police and university President James Schmotter said the student suffered life-threatening injuries Tuesday evening and was transported to Danbury Hospital. He was pronounced dead late Tuesday night.
Schmotter identified him Wednesday as Dong Lin, a Brookfield resident and commuter student taking three classes this semester.
Lin was crossing White Street around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday when the vehicle struck him and fled. It was described as a boxy, dark-colored car. Police are seeking the public’s help in finding the vehicle and driver.
Schmotter said Wednesday that Lin’s death “affects us all deeply,” and that the school is offering counseling for Lin’s friends and others who want help.
