Police Search For Armed Man Wanted In Connection With New London Shooting

New London police have one man in custody and are searching for a second man after a shooting early Saturday that left one person dead. The male victim– who police have not publicly identified– was found around 4:15 a.m. Saturday in a third-floor apartment at 252 Montauk Avenue suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police say one suspect was taken into custody by Old Saybrook police, state police and officers from the Department of Energy and Environment police after he was located at the Days Inn on Route 1 in Old Saybrook. Evan J. Holmes, 20, of New London was charged with murder, home invasion and first-degree burglary.

Police are still searching for Davion Smith, 18, of New London, who faces the same charges. Smith is described as five feet, four inches tall, 130 pounds with a dark complexion. Police say he is believed to be in the Greater New Haven area and should be considered armed and dangerous.
