Counterfeit Money Passed At Staples; Two Arrested

Norwich Police have made two arrests after they were called to the Staples store on Salem Turnpike Wednesday night for a report of a person attempting to pass counterfeit currency.

Police say Benita Montgomery, 51, of Bedford, Massachusetts tried to buy items with a $100 bill that appeared to be counterfeit. She is charged with two counts of first-degree forgery and sixth-degree attempted larceny.

Police also arrested Alfred Justice, 41, of New Haven on a charge of interfering with an investigation. Police say he was found waiting for Montgomery in a vehicle outside.

Similar incidents have been reported in northeastern Connecticut and police are investigating whether there is a link.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to call Norwich Police Detective Trevor Robinson at 860-886-5561, extension 157 or the Anonymous Tip Line at 860-886-5561, extension 500.
