Poll: McMahon Beats Shays in GOP Senate Race, Both Lose to Dems

A poll shows last year’s Senate Republican candidate Linda McMahon leading former Rep. Christopher Shays in a probable battle for the GOP nomination in next year’s Senate race in Connecticut.

McMahon and Shays have not announced they’ll run.

The telephone survey of 1,230 registered voters, conducted by Quinnipiac University, shows McMahon leading Shays, 50 percent to 35 percent. McMahon, the former chief executive of World Wrestling Entertainment, lost in 2010 to Democrat Richard Blumenthal after spending about $50 million of her own.

If the election were held today, the poll shows two Democrats _ Rep. Chris Murphy and former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz _ beating McMahon.

The survey has a margin of sampling error of 5.4 percentage points among the Republicans and 2.8 percentage points for all voters surveyed.
