Cheshire Prison Workers Back Concession Plan

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Three union locals that represent
Connecticut Department of Correction officers have voted to ratify
a labor-savings and concessions agreement, reversing their stance
from the first round of voting.
Lisa Marie Fontano, president of the union local representing
workers at the Cheshire Correctional Complex, said Wednesday that
all three locals that make up the NP-4 corrections bargaining unit
voted in favor of changes to the health insurance and retirement
benefits, as well as wage-related changes _ including a two-year
wage freeze.
Union officials say the turn-around by the correctional officers
bodes well for the agreement being ratified. The State Employees
Bargaining Agent Coalition plans to announce the final tally on
Thursday at 12:30 p.m.
The 45,000 unionized state employees finished voting Wednesday.
Ratification means thousands of layoff notices will be rescinded.
