DURHAM, Conn. (AP) _ Authorities say a 21-year-old New Haven man who was rescued from the water at Millers Pond State Park in Durham has died.

The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says the swimmer was pronounced dead Wednesday at Middlesex Hospital.

The agency says officials responded to a report of a distressed swimmer at about $:30 p.m. Emergency workers pulled the man from the waters more than an hour later and performed CPR on the way to hospital.

Authorities withheld the man’s identity because his relatives were not yet notified.

Additional details were not immediately available.

Officials are investigating the accident.
