Toddler Safe After Being Abandoned In Carjacking

WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) _ Waterbury police say a 3-year-old boy escaped injury when he was dumped with his car seat in a parking lot after his aunt’s car was stolen with him inside.

Police Capt. Christopher Corbett says 19-year-old Jahmel Edward Brye will be arraigned Tuesday on charges of carjacking, kidnapping, assault, larceny and other offenses in connection with Sunday’s incident.

Police say a woman was putting her son in her sister’s car in a Bank Street parking lot when a man, identified by police as Brye, jumped in and drove away.

Corbett said the boy was left in his car seat in another parking lot, and was not injured. Police caught Brye after a chase by car and on foot.

Brye was held on $750,000 bond to appear Tuesday in Waterbury Superior Court.
