STOCKBRIDGE, Vt. (AP) _ Vermont police say the drowning death of a 10-year-old Hartford, Conn., boy in the White River has been ruled an accident.
Police say that at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday they were called to the report of a drowning in the White River in Stockbridge.
The boy was tubing with others when he was swept down river by fast moving water. He was not wearing a life jacket. People with the boy tried to reach him, but they were unable to bring him to shore.
Local first responders pulled the boy from the river and brought him to the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., where he was pronounced dead at about 5 p.m.
The name of the boy has not been released because his family has not been notified.
