The outgoing chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party has filed an election complaint against the Working Families Party, claiming the third party made illegal campaign fund transfers to Democratic candidates for state-wide office.
Chris Healy, whose term expires on Tuesday, announced Monday he had filed a complaint with the State Elections Enforcement Commission. He claims the party violated both federal and state campaign financing laws.
Jon Green, the party’s executive director, called Healy’s complaint “classic sour grapes” because the GOP lost at the polls last year and on issues such as paid sick leave.
Green said the party sought an opinion from the elections commission about how to handle a petition drive, a key point of Healy’s complaint, and how to make sure the expense of it was properly divided.
