New London May Ban Smoking In Parks

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The New London City Council is considering a ban on smoking in city parks.

At the request of the Parks and Recreation Commission, officials are looking into a smoking ban similar to New York City’s new law that fines people who smoke in public places $50.

New London Parks and Recreation Director Tommie Major told The Day that the request was prompted by health concerns. The City Council is likely to take up the issue within the next two weeks.

Last month the Groton Town Council approved a smoking ban for places where children are present.
