Women Pulled From Burning Car by Trooper

A Connecticut state trooper is being credited with saving two North Stonington women from a burning car after an accident.

State police say Trooper Darwin Garnett helped 45-year-old Judith Quan Karam and 52-year-old Kathleen Wunschel from the Mazda after it crashed on Route 2  and hit a rock embankment.

Police say the car rolled onto its roof and caught fire.   Garnett, who was working nearby on a construction detail, was able to put out the fire and get the women out of the car.

Karam was treated for a broken ankle at The Westerly Hospital.  Wunschel also was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
