Woman, Toddler Die In Greenwich Koi Pond

GREENWICH, Conn. (AP) _ Greenwich police say a toddler and an elderly woman appear to have drowned in a shallow pond for exotic koi fish.

Police did not release their names or say whether they were related, but said their deaths Thursday at the Fox’s Lane home appear to be the result of a tragic accident.

Police received a 911 call from the address Thursday morning and found the young boy and older woman both unresponsive in the shallow, manmade koi pond. They say the small pond is surrounded by a low stone wall and fence enclosure about 21/2 feet high.

They were pronounced dead at Greenwich Hospital, and autopsies were scheduled to take place Friday. Their names were not immediately released.

The deaths remained under investigation Thursday.
