ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ The class president at Enfield High School will miss his graduation.
Patrick Knighton, a Seventh-day Adventist, says his religion prohibits him from attending secular events on Saturdays.
That means he won’t be able to attend the June 25 ceremony.
Knighton tells the Hartford Courant that he’s had to miss sporting events, science competition, and even took the SATs on a Sunday to avoid a religious conflict.
He was expected to lead his classmates in the turning of their tassels.
School Superintendent John Gallacher says this is the first time he can recall a religious conflict causing a student to miss a Saturday graduation.
