Driver Identified In Parkway Fire

State police have identified the man whose body was found in a van found burning on the Merritt Parkway Wednesday night.

Police say 50-year-old Omar Valencia of Bridgeport died of smoke inhalation,   and they say while the death does not appear to be criminal in nature,  further investigation is needed to determine the cause and origin of the flame.

The fire burned so hot that magnesium parts ignited,  and the flames themselves spread to nearby vegetation.  A second driver was injured when his car hit a car which had stopped for the fire.

The southbound accident affected traffic on Route 15 well past the morning rush hour.
