University of Connecticut Police say they made nine arrests between Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning, during the second night of Spring Weekend partying. State Police reported two arrests. Police say the number of those arrested dropped significantly from the second night of the event last year, when campus police made 34 arrests.
Crowds at the off-campus Celeron Square Apartment complex were significantly smaller and more orderly this year, said police.
During the first night of Spring Weekend, campus and state police made 11 arrests combined.
Spring Weekend has traditionally been the final big party weekend of the semester before final exams, but this year university officials called for a voluntary moratorium and enhanced efforts to keep outsiders away from campus after a fight during Spring Weekend 2010 resulted in the death of a student.
