An Ansonia man police who police say referenced the shooting of Arizona congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords when talking about gun legislation with a Connecticut legislator is charged with harassment.

State Representative Linda Gentile reported receiving several calls at her legislative office indicating that something like the Arizona shooting would happen in Connecticut if a gun bill under consideration here should pass.   The measure would limit the size of ammunition clips.

State Capitol Police worked with Ansonia Police on the case. They identified 67-year-old John Matika of Ansonia as the caller.

After authorities served the warrant, police searched  Matika’s home on Edgehill Avenue in Ansonia.  They seized 15 weapons,  including handguns, three assault rifles, an Uzi and other long guns

He’s charged with second degree harassment and is due to appear in court next week.
