A man has been sentenced to 3 1/2 years in prison for sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.
Ivan Fournier was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to second-degree sexual assault under the Alford Doctrine, meaning while he doesn’t agree with all the state’s allegations, he acknowledges there is enough evidence to convict.
Prosecutors say the 60-year-old Vietnam veteran who uses a cane to walk assaulted the girl in Manchester in 2002.
His lawyer said Fournier suffers from post-traumatic stress from his time in Vietnam and had suffered spine and head injuries in a car crash and decided to plead guilty to put an end to the case.
Fournier must register as a sex offender and stay away from the defendant when he is released.
Fournier apologized to his victim in court.
