Scutaro Homers in Red Sox Loss to Braves

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) _ Tommy Hanson outpitched Boston Red Sox opening day starter Jon Lester in the Atlanta Braves’ 4-3 win Wednesday.

Hanson allowed a homer by Marco Scutaro on the second pitch of the game, but the only other Boston base runner in the right-hander’s five innings came on a second-inning single by Ryan Kalish. Hanson struck out five, including the last three batters he faced to end a stretch of 10 straight outs.

Lester, named opening day starter earlier in the day, allowed eight hits and three runs in 4 2-3 innings. He tired in the fifth inning and gave up two runs after retiring 10 of 11 batters following three straight hits to start the game. The left-hander struck out four and walked two.

Braves third baseman Chipper Jones was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
