HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ The executive director of Stamford’s Urban Redevelopment Commission is being named oversee Connecticut’s Commission on Culture and Tourism.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, a former mayor of Stamford, announced his appointment of Christopher “Kip” Bergstrom on Thursday.
Bergstrom says he wants to make tourism is a major economic engine in Connecticut. He says it’s already a 9.3 billion industry that has the potential to quickly create new jobs.
Malloy says the state has lost ground by not spending money in the last budget on tourism promotion. Malloy wants the state to begin running TV ads, possibly in late April or May.
He says he likes a campaign that’s similar to the “I Love New York” advertisements.
