New Effort Underway To Catch ‘East Coast Rapist’
The FBI and local police from several states are launching a new effort to catch the so-called East Coast Rapist, believed responsible for rapes and other attacks on 17 women since 1997.
Authorities are hoping a tip from the public will break the case. Billboards featuring sketches of the suspect are running in the four states where attacks occurred – Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland and Rhode Island – and in neighboring states.
The attack in Connecticut occurred in New Haven on January 10, 2007.
Police have also set up a website about the case at eastcoastrapist.com
The same man is believed responsible for a dozen separate attacks that targeted 17 women. The most recent occurred in northern Virginia in 2009, where he was almost caught when a victim was able to send a text message to her mother calling for help.
