Norwich Police have arrested a city man on drunken driving and other charges after he allegedly plowed into a police cruiser early Saturday morning.
Police say officers were conducting a motor vehicle crash investigation and detouring traffic from Laurel Hill Avenue onto Summer Street when Ronald Pires, 37, slammed into a police cruiser around 1:20 a.m.
Pires backed up erratically after the collision and tried to flee the scene, said police. He was arrested a short distance away.
Neither the officer in the cruiser nor Pires was injured in the crash.
Pires is charged with DUI, operating under suspension, evading responsibility, and failure to drive right. He is due in Norwich Superior Court on Tuesday.
