A former certified public accountant is facing charges he embezzled nearly 400-thousand-dollars from a Southington church. Alan Jonas is charged with larceny. Southington police and the Chief State’s Attorney’s office conducted the investigation into the 63-year-old Jonas. He’s accused of taking the money while he worked as the chairman of the finance committee at First Baptist Church in Southington.
Jonas is alleged to have written over 100 checks to himself over a four year period. He’s also accused of filing false financial reports. Jonas was previously arrested on unrelated charges that stemmed from the theft of tens of thousands of dollars from an Alzheimer’s victim and over 38-thousand-dollars from Chorale Connecticut, for whom he served as treasurer.
All told, Jonas faces three larceny charges. He’s being held on bonds totaling 199-thousand-dollars. He’s due in New Britain Superior Court March 18.
