Charges Could Be Dismissed In Mascot Assault

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ A 28-year-old man charged with attacking a Connecticut hockey team’s mascot might soon be out of the penalty box.

Kevin O’Connell’s attorney says a Hartford Community Court judge has promised to dismiss the breach of peace charge against O’Connell after a newspaper publishes his apology letter to fans and the mascot.

Police say O’Connell was intoxicated when he tackled “Pucky the Whale” on a bet at a Connecticut Whale game in

Hartford on Jan. 29. The person in the costume was not injured.

Attorney Peter Odlum says O’Connell is deeply sorry and had no brushes with the law before the incident.

Odlum says O’Connell was also ordered to perform community service and write an essay about a book assigned by the court, perhaps about the consequences of inappropriate behavior.
