A winter storm that has been bearing down on Connecticut since 10:00 last night has finally begun to dwindle down.

Anywhere from 8-to-16″ fell overnight and there are numerous spinouts and even tractor trailers stuck in the snow.

Travel is a nightmare and state plow crews are having a difficult time getting around because of several jacknifed Tractor Trailers that have closed I-84 Eastbound in Tolland and I-95 in West Haven.  A truck ban is now in effect for Connecticut highways until 10 a.m.

Metro North and Shoreline East service has been suspended and CT Transit service has been shut down as well.

State officials say the best advice is to stay off the roads for now.

Hundreds of schools across Connecticut are closed.
