Bristol Mayor Leaves Hospital
After more than two weeks in the hospital, including a period when he was comatose and on a respirator, Bristol Mayor Art Ward has left Bristol Hospital. Ward choked on a piece of meat December 4.
Doctor Stephen Caminiti says he was a good patient, and made even better progress in recent days than they’d have predicted. “The Mayor has been an exemplary patient and he has made a fabulous and very remarkable recovery in the last four or five days, since the last update. He has surpassed anybody’s expectations about how well he would do.”
Ward told reporters and well-wishers at the hospital that he’s “feeling pretty good — a lot better than I was 14 days ago.” And he thanked “everyone for their good wishes and their prayers, the doctors and the nurses who helped me get through all these trials and tribulations.”
Doctors say Ward needs to regain some strength, but should be able to return to work sometime in January.
