HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Two people who say they were among the late Dr. George Reardon’s child sex abuse victims have sued St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, saying it failed to protect them from Reardon.
The new cases filed Friday are among 160 lawsuits by former Reardon patients against the Hartford-based hospital.
Both plaintiffs say they were young boys when Reardon abused them. One later had a sex change, and says emotional trauma of the alleged abuse was a factor.
Reardon resigned from St. Francis in 1993 amid molestation allegations, but was never arrested. He died in 1998. A cache of child pornography featuring former patients was discovered in 2007 at his former home.
The hospital said Friday it is offering free counseling to Reardon’s victims and will seek “a fair resolution of this tragedy.”
