WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) _ A former janitor at a Waterbury middle school has received a five-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to exchanging sexual text messages with a 13-year-old student.
Juan C. Rodriguez, who worked at the Wallace Middle School, was charged in April with risk of injury to a child after the girl’s father told police of the cell phone messages. Police said Rodriguez sent the messages while on the job.
The 28-year-old Rodriguez resigned in May.
The Republican-American reports that a judge said Thursday by pleading guilty Rodriguez spared the girl from going through a trial.
If Rodriguez, accompanied by his lawyer in court, gets into legal trouble in the next three years, he faces serving the entire jail term.
