Governor Jodi Rell says she has proposed the incoming administration of Dan Malloy with a 94-page “transition budget” which includes the costs of current services.
Rell says the “current services” budget shows what it would cost the state to run the state with the current number of employees and programs.
Rell says she’s leaving the state with a balanced budget — but she points out that the following two years face multi-billion-dollar deficits. She says her document also makes recommendations for addressing the estimated 3-point-4 billion dollar state deficit looming for the fiscal year 2012-2013.
Malloy said the document held no surprises to him, and says he and his running mate, Nancy Wyman, the current state comptroller, will take a look at the material from Governor Rell as they put together their own budget for submission to the legislature in February.
