GOP Chair: Vote Count More "Fouled Up" Than Previously Thought

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut’s Republican chairman says the party is waiting for its candidate for governor to decide whether he’ll challenge results from last week’s close election.

Chairman Chris Healy says the party has spent the weekend collecting information from last week’s election and says it was more “fouled up” than previously believed. He was not specific.

Tom Foley, the Republican candidate for governor, has scheduled a news conference for 1 p.m. Monday to discuss what his campaign has found in the race and how he plans to proceed.

Messages were left seeking comment with Foley.

The secretary of the state posted vote tallies Friday that showed Democrat Dan Malloy leading Foley by 5,637 votes, well above the 2,000-vote margin that automatically triggers a re-count.
