Demolition is underway at the former H.B. Davis Building on Hartford’s Main Street, the so-called “Butt Ugly” building whose redevelopment figured in the corruption trial of former Mayor Eddie Perez.
Mayor Pedro Segarra said tearing down the dilapidated building will help connect progress downtown with the neighborhoods, and will make the site “very inviting for future developers.” The goal of the project is to eliminate blight and encourage mixed-use development linking the project with both the Clay Arsenal neighborhood and the Central Business District.

Members of City Council, the Redevelopment Authority, the Department of Development Services and downtown business leaders were on hand for the event.
