FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP) _ Police say residents of a Connecticut neighborhood were allowed to return home after being evacuated while a neighbor barricaded himself in his Fairfield house.
Fairfield police say 44-year-old Michael D’Avanzo was found dead in the house after holding officers and negotiators at bay for several hours Sunday morning.
Police say he apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers were called to the home on a report that D’Avanzo had threatened to kill himself and was loading a gun as his mother fled to a neighbor’s. An undetermined number of people in the neighborhood were evacuated as negotiators tried to communicate with him.
Police say the investigation remained open later Sunday.
