This is the perfect time of the year for indulging in fish tacos. There is nothing quite like fresh seafood wrapped up with various fruits, vegetables, sauces and condiments in a tortilla. Stop by any one of these Connecticut bars and restaurants this summer and treat yourself to this delicious delicacy.
Geronimo Tequila Bar & Southwest Grill
271 Crown St.
New Haven, CT 06510
(203) 777-7700

Visiting Geronimo is like walking into an upscale Mexican cantina that has been transported to New Haven. It serves up a mean fish taco prepared with yellowfin tuna, jicama and salsa flavored with papaya, mango, mustard and rosemary. It is also worth trying the catch of the day, a taco made with the chef’s choice of fish. And be sure to take advantage of Taco Tuesdays at Geronimo, where you can get two tacos and a house margarita for just $12.

The Gray Goose Cafe

Located inside a quaint, century-old building, the Gray Goose Cafe has become a big hit with Southport area residents thanks to enticing dishes made from fresh and organic ingredients. Fish taco fans do not want to miss out on Gray Goose’s ahi tuna entry. Featuring sesame-crusted tuna, grilled pineapple, mint salsa and wasabi-lemon yogurt on a warm flour tortilla, it is one of the best in the state. You also can’t go wrong with the baja shrimp tacos with avocado, mango-pico and Monterey.

Bodega Taco Bar (which also has a location in Darien) specializes in delectable, sophisticated fish tacos. Go for the Baja with panko-crusted mahi mahi, pico de gallo and lemon aioli. Other worthy options include a seared tuna taco with avocado, ginger carrots and sriracha aioli, and the gambos taco made with shrimp, cucumber mango salsa and chipolte mayo. If you can’t get enough of them, then stay on the lookout for the Bodega Taco Truck, which may just stop by your home or workplace (you may also book it for private parties and events).

Tequila Mockingbird
6 Forest St.
New Canaan, CT 06840
(203) 966-2222
www.tequilamockingbirdnc.com

As its name suggests, this New Canaan bar and restaurant takes tequila seriously enough that it is the only New England establishment accredited by the Tequila Regulatory Council. So while you will definitely want to peruse its tequila menu, its fish taco selection is no slouch either. It has a Baja fish taco made with Pacific cod filet, shredded cabbage and its “salsa secreta” in a corn tortilla. Also tempting are its grilled fish tacos —  swordfish with guacamole and lime juice and yellowfin tuna with mango salsa.

Paloma
15 Harbor Point Road
Stamford, CT 06902
(203) 998-7500
www.palomagrill.com

Chef Aaron Sanchez, a veteran of popular Food Network shows like “Iron Chef America” and “Chopped,” opened his latest venture, Paloma, at Stamford’s Harbor Point in the summer of 2014 to great acclaim. The Latin bar and grill offers an enticing assortment of tostadas — which are, in essence, flat tacos. Among the top choices are crab with chile arbol aoli and avovado puree, and octopus with green onions and chorizo aioli. They will taste even better alongside one of Paloma’s craft cocktails, and outside with its beautiful view of the water.
