This is the best time of year to get outside and enjoy the crisp, cool weather, and a great way to savor the last couple of months before the snow arrives is by taking the family to one of Connecticut’s Fall fairs and festivals. Residents of New Haven County won’t want to miss the 69th Annual North Haven Fair this year. Aside from rides and plenty of great food, the North Haven Fair also features live entertainment, horse and ox pulling contests, and even racing pigs! The whole family will enjoy this fantastic event!

The Berlin Fair has been an annual event in Hartford County since 1949. In addition to a family day of fun, visitors of the fair will be happy to know that the Berlin Fair helps raise money for various charities such as FIDELCO and DARE. The fair is known for its great selection of food, including fried dough, pulled pork sandwiches, and fried clams. Entertainment at the Berlin Fair includes a rodeo, comedy show, and plenty of local vendors.

Don’t miss the 173rd Annual Four Town Fair! The fair is hosted each year by one of four Connecticut towns: Ellington, East Windsor, Somers, and Enfield. This year, it will take place in Somers. This is one of the best fairs in Connecticut for families, with activities and contests geared just for kids. Little ones will especially love an added feature on Friday and Saturday this year, Riverside Reptiles! Bring the kids to the Four Town Fair for a great time, and all things creepy crawly!

For more Fall fun in New Haven County, the 46th Annual Seymour Pumpkin Festival will be held on September 18th, 2011. Hundreds of artists and craftspeople come to the festival each year to showcase their handmade goods, and to be judged in different categories on who has the best products. In addition to the craft booths, the Seymour Pumpkin Festival features a pumpkin decorating contest for children, rides for the whole family to enjoy, and delicious food booths.

One of the best festivals in the greater Hartford area is definitely the annual Glastonbury Apple Harvest Festival. The festival features fun for all ages, including live entertainment, craft booths, pie eating contests, rides, pony rides, all within an easy drive of anywhere around Hartford. If you happen to have a favorite family pie recipe, you can even try your hand at the pie-bake off contest!
