AVON, Conn. (AP) – Police say a note referencing the school shooting in Florida prompted a schools lockdown in Connecticut.
It turned out to not be a threat.
Authorities in Avon say a handwritten note saying schools were being shot up was found at a local medical testing lab Friday morning, leading to a “soft” lockdown at all five town schools.
School doors were locked and no one was allowed in.
Police said they later learned a cleaner at the lab copied a social media post by a student in Parkland, Florida, during the school shooting on Wednesday that killed 17 people.
Officials said the Spanish-speaking cleaner wanted a translation of the posting and accidentally left the note at the lab.
The lockdown was lifted later Friday morning.
