WALLINGFORD, Conn. (CBS Connecticut) – Wallingford police say a 29-year-old man has turned himself in to face charges in connection with $1,100 worth of vandalism earlier this month at the Center Street Cemetery.
Joel Herrle tells investigators he was drunk, and had just been in a fight after leaving a bar when he entered the cemetery on November 5 and stumbled over gravestones– causing damage, according to police. Police say two gravestones, a memorial post, and a larger gravestone were damaged.
Herrle could not recall complete details of the incident, said police. He faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief and simple trespass. He’s free on $1,000 bond and due in Meriden Superior Court December 12.
