HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ Senate Republican Leader Len Fasano is urging Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to meet with Connecticut lawmakers after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend to discuss the state’s budget deficit problems.
Fasano, who will represent Republicans next year in an 18-18 split Senate, says people are losing confidence in the state and officials need to “show to the public that all parties can work together to face these challenges with a united front.”
Fasano says he sent Tuesday’s letter to take Malloy up on his offer to have a “frank discussion” with legislative leaders in the coming weeks about the budget. A Malloy spokeswoman says Malloy appreciates Fasano’s receptiveness.
Last week’s report from Malloy’s budget office estimated a $1.3 billion shortfall in next fiscal year’s general fund, which is roughly $18 billion.
