WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Former gubernatorial candidate Joe Visconti says he’s now exploring a run for the U.S. Senate.

The West Hartford Republican, who also ran for the U.S. House of Representatives, said Wednesday he plans to go door-to-door to attract voters.

Visconti says he believes he can attract 200,000 new voters to defeat first-term Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal in November.

A contractor and businessman, Visconti says he wants to see the GOP field a full slate of candidates in all legislative races.

He says there were 48 Republican candidates missing when he ran for the U.S. House in 2008 and 30 candidates missing in the 2014 gubernatorial race.

One-time Olympian August Wolf is so far the only declared GOP Senate candidate.
