(Hartford, Conn.CBS Connecticut) – Once again, local and state public safety officials are teaming up with Mothers Against Drunk Driving to get the word out not to drink and drive ever, but particularly around the busy holiday season.

The “Tie One On For Safety” campaign asks drivers to display red ribbons in their vehicles as a reminder.

MADD’s Connecticut executive director is Janice Heggie Margolis and she says they want to remind people not to drink and driving during this, the deadliest time of the year.

Last year, on New Year’s Day, 115 people died in the U.S. in an alcohol-related crash, and over one thousand are killed annually between the Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day period.
