November 12th – It’s time to embark on the 2015-16 season for the 10-time National Champion UConn Women. And the opener isn’t going to be a walk in the park as the Huskies visit #6 Ohio State Monday Night. Is this team better prepared for it’s first big road test than they were a season ago when the Huskies lost their only game of the season at Stanford ?? I think the answer is yes….The continuity of the four starters back, plus the potential appearance of Gabby Williams helps…But, with three Huskies on the shelf with injury and now 8 healthy players, who knows..
The exhibitions showed very little…BUT Williams improvement looks substantial…She’ll be asked to be a force on defense with her quickness…and a tough, athletic low post matchup on offense….In talking with both Geno and CD, Williams may very well be the most athletic player UConn has ever had…
We know what the other four starters can do….Stewie, Mo Jeff, Mo Tuck and The Nurse have certainly embraced the challenge ahead…And they’ll get a stiff challenge from a fast Buckeye Team that loves to play fast and score a lot of points..They feature Sophomore Kelsey Mitchell. She led the nation in scoring as a freshman with a NCAA record 127 3-pointers made…They won 24 games with a 4 guard set. Their post player is 6-2 Shayla Cooper, who can be physical…Let’s see how they handle the quickness and versatility of the Huskies as the Circus comes to Columbus for the first time..It should be a fun opener for the Huskies.
Hoops begins Friday Night as Joe D’ and Wayno have the Men’s Opener with Maine at 7pm….Then Deb Fiske and I have the call from Value City Arena Monday Evening at 5pm. ….Remember, if you’re not near a radio, you can find us online thru Tunein.com or the Tunein App..search UConn-IMG Sports Network…Hope you enjoy the season !!
