A Wednesday report from state auditors found 15 shortcomings with the State Department of Public Health, all falling under the umbrella issue of widespread mismanagement.

The most glaring problem – failure to properly complete background checks for workers at day care centers.

Because of this, children in facilities like these that are licensed by the state could be at an increased risk of coming into contact with unsuitable individuals.

A spokesman with the department says they’ve addressed a number of the findings from the report, which is two years removed and covers only the first six months that Governor Malloy was in office.
