BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A 77-year-old Sherman man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for attempting to bribe a judge to influence a grand jury investigation into the 1984 disappearance of his wife.

Dominic Badaracco was also sentenced to three years of probation on Thursday.
Badaracco was convicted in July of offering $100,000 to state Superior Court Judge Robert

Brunetti to influence a one-man grand jury convened in November 2010, looking into Mary Badaracco’s unsolved disappearance.

Brunetti testified that on Nov. 17, 2010, Badaracco called him at his home and asked for his help, saying: “I’m only gonna say this one time … It’s worth 100 Gs.”

Defense attorney Richard Meehan said he would appeal and asked the sentencing judge to allow Badaracco to remain free until the case is reviewed.
