Toni Harp wins the New Haven Democratic mayoral primary.  Two of Harp’s opponents announced that they will not run in the general election.

“I am so pleased that Kermit Carolina and Henry Fernandez are not running [in the general election], and I hope they pool their support on behalf of the Democratic ticket,” Harp said.

Harp did not call for her one remaining Democratic opponent to step aside, instead saying he has a right to run in the general election.

Second Place finisher Justin Elicker says he will continue is fight to be the next mayor.

“Nobody said this race was going to be easy, we all knew the likely outcome would be continuing to run,” Elicker said.

The candidates are trying to fill the shoes of John DeStefano, who is leaving office after serving 2-decades as mayor of New Haven.
