HUDSON, N.H. (AP) — Police in Hudson, N.H., say a woman who reported an abandoned Great Dane in need of medical attention turned out to be the dog’s owner and has been charged with cruelty to animals.

Police said 44-year-old Michelle Hogan of Hudson turned herself into police on Tuesday and is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 19.

Hogan, the owner of Sammie, a 2-year-old Great Dane, recently reported the dog as being abandoned at Dunk n Dogs, a dog grooming business.

Officials said Sammie had a growth on her chest and needed medical care. Animal control officers said Sammie is now being treated and is doing fine.

A fund has been created by America’s Pets, a pet supply store in Hudson, to help with Sammie’s medical expenses.
