HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) _ USA Gymnastics is holding its national championships in Hartford for the second time in three years and the organization says it’s a relationship that could become long-term.

The P&G Championships, which will determine the men’s and women’s national champions and the makeup of the U.S. national team, run Thursday through Sunday at the XL Center.

USA Gymnastics President Steve Penny says Hartford is an ideal site for the event for a number of reasons, including the size of the city.

He says Hartford is big enough to provide the needed venues and hotel rooms. But he says it’s small enough that the championships aren’t competing with other events, and become the focus of the region’s attention.

The event is expected to pump about $7 million into the local economy.
