BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) _ A Bridgeport teenager charged in a 2011 killing has been freed from prison after a witness recanted a statement to police.

The Connecticut Post reports  that 19-year-old Dasheen Brown was released Tuesday after a prosecutor announced he was dropping the charges and a Bridgeport Superior Court judge dismissed the case.

Brown was detained on $1 million bail for the past 20 months.

Brown and two other defendants were charged with murder in a July 2011 shooting spree in Washington Park that killed 17-year-old Blair Belcher Jr. and injured three others. Prosecutors lowered the charge to manslaughter after a witness refused to testify.

Brown hugged his mother while leaving the courthouse Tuesday.

Cases remain pending against the other two defendants.
