Into December !  It was a day to sleep in, do some Christmas shopping and wrap gifts..Yeah I got the oil changed in the old corolla too ! But hey, when you’ve got a day to yourself, chores must be done sometimes.

So let’s talk UConn Women’s Hoops shall we ? Other than the muscle tussle with Stanford, November was an easy opening month for Geno’s Crew. The Team numbers from this time last season aren’t all that different either. But this month, two big games and the conference opener are all on the horizon. And I guess Keleena Mosqueda-Lewis is pretty good eh ? Three weeks, three Big East Freshman of the Week Honors. She can play and has a high basketball IQ..It will be fun to see her develop under Geno and the coaching staff at UConn.

The 2011 Champs from College Station, Texas pay a visit tomorrow night (Texas A&M) trying to deal with a little championship hangover and their first loss of the season yesterday at Purdue where they only shot 28%. Gary Blair thinks the Huskies will be getting his team at the right time. And in the confines of the XL Center ? Yes, the Aggies have size, but haven’t really used it yet. Kelsey Bone, a South Carolina Transfer (and ex-UConn recruit) begins life back at home after sitting out last season as she tries to fill the shoes of Danielle Adams. However it’s the guard play that will keep this team afloat. The Senior Duo of Sydney Carter and Tyra White, with Junior Adrienne Pratcher will be called upon to keep A&M’s trademark defense in tact. A big reason they won it all last April in Indianapolis.

Friday, it’s the Road and Big East opener at Seton Hall. In reality, a nice way to ease into both. Year two of the Anne Donovan Era has had some bumps in the road at 5-4 with losses last week to a 6-1 Hofstra team that’s pretty good and Wake Forest Sunday. Jasmine Crew is their best offensive threat. It would seems Kelly Faris gets to guard her.

Then of course the Baylor/Charleston trip right after exams on the 18th and 21st. The game in Waco is already sold out and could be another 1 v2 game in the rankings. Is UConn the 2nd best team in the country right now ? I would say no…Top 5 ? Yes…Notre Dame despite losing at Baylor to me is still #2 with all the options they have on offense. I know, it’s only December,so much time to gauge the contenders ..I’ll check in again during our extra day in Charleston, SC before the C of C game on the 21st.

Enjoy everything that goes along with the holiday season ! And yes, Ryan Boatright is fun to watch ! 🙂

Go Huskies !
