STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ University of Connecticut officials say
donors gave nearly $51 million to the school over the past fiscal
year, an 11 percent boost over the previous year’s fundraising

UConn Foundation Inc., which raises money for the university,
says the donations in the financial year that ended July 1 will
help bolster academic programs, student scholarships, faculty
development and other needs.

The donations came through UConn’s fundraising campaign known as
“Our University. Our Moment.” They came from various sources,
including alumni, corporations, private foundations and other

The $50.6 million total included $23.5 million for academic
programs, about $10 million for athletics, some $9.8 million for
programs at the UConn Health Center in Farmington, and about $8
million for scholarships.

UConn alumni donated nearly 46 percent of the money.
