OLD LYME, Conn. (AP) _ State wildlife officials are warning residents of the Old Lyme area to be on the lookout for a coyote that attacked a man last weekend.

Seamus Plyer tells WFSB-TV that he was mowing the lawn on Sunday when the coyote jumped him and the two struggled for more than a minute. The 22-year-old Plyer says the animal was “intent on killing me.”

After fighting off the coyote, he drove himself to the hospital for treatment. He suffered cuts and scratches on his arms.

Police and the state Department of Environmental Management looked for the coyote but couldn’t find it.

A spokesman for the DEP says coyote attacks on humans are extremely rare, but if an attack happens in broad daylight there is a good chance the animal has rabies.
