STORRS, Conn. (AP) _ Connecticut running back Lyle McCombs says he plans to stay at UConn despite his arrest on drug charges.

Campus police say they arrested the 18-year-old McCombs on Sunday and charged him with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after finding him in a dormitory with less than 4 ounces of marijuana.

The 18-year-old from Staten Island, N.Y. is due in court on Jan. 25. Coach Paul Pasqualoni has suspended McCombs indefinitely.

McCombs sent a statement by e-mail Tuesday saying he had made a “huge mistake,” apologizing to eammates and coaches for his conduct and promising to “do everything right to be reinstated.”
